Testing your web site

When constructing a web site you need to test to see how effective and efficient your web site is. Use a testing table ( ) to record each aspect of the website. When testing you should take ito account:
  • Presentation - How good does the solution look
    • is the text, colour , graphic, effects... look good and suit the audience and needs of organisation
    • are headings consistent in size, font and/or colour
    • is information easy to read
    • is all information complete
  • Functionality - Check all technical aspects work
    • do all links work
    • do graphics quicly load i.e. are they in correct format and size for web publications
    • do documents open
    • rollover images work
  • Usability - is the solution easy to use. Is interface user-friendly
    • is navigation clear
    • can you clearly identify links
    • are website colours consistent throughout website
  • Accessibility - does it allow all the audience to access the website and is it secure so that unwanted users cannot access it
    • is it for teenagers,girls, adults, music lovers....
    • are people with disabilities able to access the site e.g. visually impaired, colour blindness...
    • are only members able to access or should age be restricted-security logon
  • Communication of message - Is the message clearly understood
    • Inform - does it give all info you need e.g.
    • Persuade - is it tryig to get you to do or buy something e.g. eBay
    • Educate -is it tring to teach you how to do something e.g. simulations...
    • Entertain - is it trying to get you to enjoy yourdelf e.g. games....
